I love to create stories. I love the combination of a visual and written narrative, whether that be animation, comics, or a stand alone illustration. They can facilitate such a powerful message, and retain the severity of said message while cushioning the blow for the viewer. So using themes like nostalgia and hope, I make my art as a way to vent these frustrations and to work out these grand moral dilemmas I feel we’re facing today as a people.

Meet the Artist

My Story

Hi there! my name is Jake Stewart and i am an illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve studied art for most of my life, and explored many different modalities allowing me to develop a unique voice. I have a very bright and playful style, that emphasizes shape and color; as well  elements of narrative. I work in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Animate, and After Effects; as well as many traditional mediums from oil paints to collage. I grew up on Cartoon Network shows from the early 2000’s, whose themes have emerged in my own body of work. Today my concentration is on comics and graphic novels, and I currently am writing and illustrating my own series. I am skilled in animation/visual development, graphic design, and fine arts — all of which I rely on heavily for my illustration.

I also have worked for a mural company creating murals across South Florida, designed several album covers, and have worked with Pigna, a prestigious Italian stationary company, where I designed the winning cover for a line of sketchbooks that are sold across NY and Italy. The competition was a great opportunity to experiment with different processes, as well as work with others to complete the project.

I play music which is a major part of my creative process. I grew up in a burgeoning music scene in South Florida, and my creative journey started in bands. I played in groups and made friends with so many incredible people, who I am still close with today. From early on I learned how closely tied the two worlds of art and music really are. Now as an artist, I am lucky to frequently work with my friends in the music industry, designing covers and promotional material, and in return receiving music I can incorporate into  my own work.
